Campaign Tips
The UDHR belongs to everyone and should be celebrated everywhere as our universal heritage.

‘Badge’ your local or national events for 2008 such as summer festivals, city festivals, seasonal markets, marathons or other sport activities, with UDHR60.  You could also add a human rights perspective to your events or information materials.

Suggest to your national coordinators to print UDHR60 postage stamps

Produce (using the UDHR60 logo) and Distribute stickers, posters, flyers and more everywhere.

Encourage libraries to set up a special stand during the Anniversary year displaying available books on human rights.
Design a UDHR ribbon or badge and encourage those who have read and support the Universal Declaration to wear them all year long.
Start a human rights blog on your website including daily news updates, UN news stories and press releases on human rights, events and if resources allow, discussion forums on human rights issues.

Tell your local & national media

Add UDHR Articles to your regular information materials.  OHCHR has produced a UDHR poster that could be inserted in local and national newspapers and magazines… http://www.ohchr.org/EN/UDHR/Pages/60UDHRIntroduction.aspx

Invite your local audience to write a personal story related to human rights.

Propose a UDHR theme talk show or games show to your community TV or radio broadcasters.

Educators

Encourage schools to include specific activities on the Declaration in their curriculum for the year. Highlight the teaching materials available on human rights on the UN Cyberschoolbus website at http://www.cyberschoolbus.un.org/

A simplified version of UDHR is available at http://www.ohchr.org/Documents/Publications/ABCannexesen.pdf

Invite schools to organize cartoon or writing contests.
Encourage local universities to organise debates, workshops or conferences on human rights during 2008.

Businesses

Include more explicit statements on human rights and the Universal Declaration in your policies.
Post your human rights-related policies on the Internet to share them more widely and make them more transparent.
Try the Business and Human Rights tool (http://www2.ohchr.org/english/HR_Learning.htm) and share your experience in the context of your local network.
Reference the UDHR’s 60th on your web pages and encourage your participants to do the same on their websites.
Raise awareness of the UDHR at the national level through your industry associations and other entities that you are involved in.
Volunteer to be the subject of a case study on your past efforts to tackle human rights from a management perspective.
Include human rights activities, as they relate to celebrating the 60th anniversary of the UDHR, in your public information materials.
